The Norwegian Institute of Public Health announced on the 2nd that a cluster of COVID-19 virus infections occurred on a luxury cruise ship in Norway. At least 40 passengers and crew have tested positive for the COVID-19 virus.
According to media reports, as of August 2, a total of 36 of the 158 crew members on the cruise ship named "Roal Amundsen" had been diagnosed with COVID-19. According to a report from the Norwegian Institute of Public Health, among all the passengers on the ship since July 17, 4 people have been diagnosed with the COVID-19 virus.
After the cruise ship arrived at the port of Tromso in northern Norway on July 31, the four crew members went to the hospital for treatment and found that they tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. After that, the rest of the crew were all isolated on board. The Norwegian operator Hurtigruten to which the cruise ship belongs said that 178 passengers on board had disembarked on July 31, and about 60 of them were subsequently quarantined in Tromso. The Norwegian authorities are tracking all 387 passengers on the ship’s two journeys since July 17.
The Norwegian Institute of Public Health said that it has informed all passengers on the two journeys and asked them to self-isolate before the test results are available. Lina Wall, a senior official at the Institute, said that more people infected with the COVID-19 virus associated with this cruise ship are expected.
Affected by the epidemic, Hurtigruth’s cruise business has been suspended for about three months before, and it resumed in mid-June this year, becoming the first cruise ship company to resume operations.
