Zimbabwe Tightens Covid-19 Prevention Measures

 Zimbabwe’s Vice President and Minister of Health Constantino Chiwenga announced on the 12th that the Zimbabwe government has decided to tighten epidemic prevention measures starting on the 14th due to the recent increase in the number of confirmed and dead cases of COVID-19.

Chiwenga said at a press conference held on the evening of the 12th that although the Zimbabwe government has adopted stricter epidemic prevention measures and actively promoted COVID-19 vaccination, the country's epidemic situation has rebounded. From June 5 to 11, Zimbabwe added 596 confirmed cases and 26 deaths, both more than three times more than the same period last month.

Chiwenga said that the situation of the epidemic is not optimistic, but many Zimbabweans are lax and paralyzed in the prevention and control of the epidemic. In order to prevent the third wave of outbreaks in the country, the Zimbabwe government decided to take more stringent epidemic prevention measures starting on the 14th.

According to reports, related measures include: banning any gatherings of people except funerals; all meetings are held online; government departments and private enterprises should not exceed 50% of the usual number of people; all restaurants prohibit dine-in meals and only allow takeaways ; Bars and nightclubs continue to be closed; supermarkets and shops are shortened to 8 am to 6 pm daily; all international passengers must hold a negative nucleic acid test within 48 hours before entering the country, and passengers from high-risk countries and regions need to enter the country after entering the country. Chiwenga called on the public to be vaccinated against COVID-19 in order to achieve herd immunity in the country as soon as possible. According to statistics from the Ministry of Health of Tianjin, as of the evening of the 11th, 691251 people have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine, of which 405,603 have completed two doses. The country has a total of 39,688 confirmed cases, a total of 1,629 deaths, and a total of 36,970 cured cases.
